My cats are over 15 years old now and using this product for the past few years has kept them as 'frisky' as ever. This was the prescribed treatment for the one who was developing urinary crystals, and now the others won't eat anything else either.

My cat had serious urinary issues before he started eating this food. But since I switched he hasn't had any problems!

I buy this prescription food for my sister in law who has 6 cats, some of whom need the special food to avoid urinary infections. She lives in another state so being able to order it online and arrange to have it sent automatically every month to her as a gift is wonderful. And the food tastes so good that even the cats who don't need it love it.

I use Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO 33 Dry Cat Food for my two babies. They are about 9 years old and look like they are only a year old. My one little girl, Ginger use to get UTIs monthly since using this cat food UTIs are a thing of the past. Love love love this product and it's well worth the cost! Pros:
This formula really helps our male cat who has struvite crystals. IT is the only thing keeping him from painful urination etc. Healthy cats like his sister can eat it too so we don't have to separate their food and constantly watch them.
Cons:
Very expensive and not so readily accessible
Free shipping! And pretty fast too.

My boy developed urinary blockages when he was only a year old. Very scary! The vet put him on this food and he has been fine for 3 years now. The food is expensive but ordering the bigger bag and online has proved cheaper than getting it at the vet.
This food is high in calories...

We have five cats. Only one has to be on this special food recommended by our "Vet". We feed them the can in the morning and the dry at night.
They all love it day after day. Feeding it to them for over two months and they still love it.
Thank You

I have three Persians, and my 12 year old was diagnosed with urinary crystals 8 months ago. My vet recommended this brand, which is also safe for my younger cats. All three love it, and better yet, the crystals are gone!
Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO 33 Dry Cat Food:
I use Urinary SO as 1/4 of the daily dry food that I feed to all my kitties - ranging from 15 years to 8 weeks. One cat had frequent urinary problems, so I decided to stave off recurring problems by mixing it with other healthful dry foods. It has been successful for a few years.
Everyone seems to benefit.
I recently started with auto-ship. It was very prompt and carefully packed. Now I have to tweak to timing of the shipment.
Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO 33 Dry Cat Food:
I have eight cats and all of them have been eating Royal Canin Urinary So since they came off kitten food. I have two cats that have chronic bladder inflammation and this food has helped eliminate there inappropriate urination by relieving their symptoms. I feed all my cats this food and they all have beautiful hair coats as a result of the high quality ingredients. It helps put my mind at ease knowing they are eating such a quality food and especially keeps me from worrying that my male cats will develop a urinary obstruction or bladder stones. I can't say enough good things about this food.
Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO 33 Dry Cat Food:
This is one of the few foods for urinary tract issues that my cat enjoys. He has to be on prescription food permanently so it's good that there is something that he enjoys. I find that buying several bags at a time comes out less expensive than purchasing from my vet, and I don't have to lug the bags in and out of the car, which is a bonus. However, keep in mind that this is a prescription diet which is far more pricey than the generic stuff at the pet store.

I've have a male Bengal who would have repeat urinary feline problems with spraying as a symptom. Since using this food, my problems have been solved. Thanks to our vet for recommending this diet!

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO 33 Dry Cat Food:
If your cat has an infalmed bladder, uti, struvite crystal, or worse yet, calcium oxatate crystals, then you know the terrible pain, discomfort, and potential life threatening condition your fury friend is it.
My one year old ragdoll cat had a temp of 103.7, was lathargic, and continually squatted trying to urinate. He is perfectly kitty box trained, so when he started to try to go outside his box, I knew something was wrong...he was trying to tell me someting.
Took him to the vet and sure enough he was diagnosed with an inflamed bladder possibly caused by crystal formation in his urine, along with a possible uti.
I began researching the cause of crystal formation in cats and found out it is not difficult to understand at all....that was a relief right there.
I'll try to explain: the natural ph level in cat urine should be about 6.8 meaning it should be more acidic than alkaline. When a cat's urine is too alkaline...above ph 7, then it creates a great breeding ground for struvite crystals to formulate. When they do form, it causes irritation to the bladder and urethera, along with bacteria formation. The result: a uti (urinary tract infection), inflamation, and an unhappy kitty cat. If the crystals grow large enough, they may block the urine flow altogether and that is an emergency situation...take to vet immediately.
The good news: Struvite crystals are completely dissolable. If the ph is changed from alkaline (if your kitty has struvite crystals his urine is definitely alkaline) to acidic (ph 6.8), then the struvite crystals will dissolve.
Now here is the importance of the S/O food: There food lowers the ph of your cat's urine to an acidic ph level thereby causing them to dissolve and pass out of your kitty's urine.
the ingredients that affect the ph of your cat's urine are the mineral in the food, specifically:
calcium, phosphorous, and magnesium. It is the level of these minerals NOT whether the food is dry or wet (I know...contrary to many opinions...but keep in mind they are opinions and not based in scientific fact in regards to the ph levels.
Royal Canin S/O has a magnesium level of 0.08% compared to the average 0.12% in most dry foods. this doesn't sound like a huge variance, but it is in mineral content world.
Dl- Methianine is the ingredient that is at work lowering the ph into the acidic zone.
The prevention of any crystals...struvite or calcium oxalate should be our primary aim as cat lovers, and the only way to prevent the formation of any crystals in a cat's urine is to keep the urine ph in a proper balance.
As to the ingredience: The ground corn killed me too. I had my fury friend on BG grain free food...and I was proud of myself for being such a good momma kitty. But I ended up with a sick baby.
So what should I have done? Say, "Oh no, that has corn so I won't give it to my kitty even though it has all the other ingredients that will keep him bladder healthy and keep him out of pain and discomfort?" Forget it! I'd rather have a happy and healthy kitty cat.
I gave my sick kitty cat the S/O food (yes it was hard because of the corn...but I had to try), slowly introducing it into his existing food, and sure enough....within a few days, he did produce more urine. The frequency of his dry squats (!), lessened and he is definitely on the mend. His urine has been checked and there is NO sign of any crystal formation in his urine. Amazing.
Another amazing result of using this food is that my cat drinks so much water now. I called the Royal Canin company (they are happy to give you any info you want) and asked why. They told me the ingredients are designed to cause a cat to be thirsty and so he will drink more. The more a cat drinks the more urine he produces and the more he pee-pees, thus he is constantly flushing his bladder which also helps in the prevention of crystals.
My cat won't touch wet food.......I've tried all the tricks. he won't touch it. I thought my cat was doomed to have bladder problems for the rest of his life. It was such a relief to find out that I didn't have to switch him to wet food in order for him to have a healthy and balanced bladder.
I hope this help you.
P.S. I have also found that the Wellness Indoor cat food has low calcium, magnesium, and phosphorous, and also has triple cranberry ingredients which is the ingredient to the holistic approach to the urine ph problem. They have no corn, wheat, or soy. Once my cat is 100% recovered from the inflamation (the last part of this process in the healing), I will slowly change him over to the Wellness food.

Speedy delivery and product arrived in perfect condition.

My older Persian was producing LOTS of urinary crystals, so my veterinarian recommended that she switch to Royal Canin SO. Her crystals are now completely gone. My other two Persians, who don't have crystals, also love it, and it's perfectly safe for them to eat, as well.
Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO 33 Dry Cat Food:
One of my cats was prescribed this kibble in 2006 after bouts with urinary tract crystals. Since then, there has not been a recurrance (knock on wood). He is a very fussy eater and it was a blessing that he actually really likes this food. The other cats in the house have this as well since it is difficult to keep them out of each other's food bowls. Just be aware that this food will increase a cat's demand for water, so have plenty of filtered water available for them (emergency vet said filtered was better if there is a urinary issue), and plenty of litter since increased water means increased urine production. That is the goal of the food, to keept things flushed out. I find that when I purchase several bags at once that the cost per bag (including shipping) is a bit less expensive than the vet and it arrives on my doorstep.

If this product expensive? Yes....but you get what you pay for. Knowing you can feed this product and not have to worry about your cat developing more urinary tract issues is: PRICELESS! I spent $1700 in vet bills before I found this product. There are others that claim to be sensitive to the needs of cats with urinary tract issues but don't do any better at preventing problems that any other ordinary food. This product actually does what it promises, no ifs ands or buts! Terrific product and my picky eater car loves it!

One of my male cats was prescribed this food after a bout with bladder stones. Since another male has had surgery for the same, I asked my vet about putting all the males on it. Then my 2 females went on strike and demanded the same. This is apparently a good tasting food that has prevented new stones for over 2 years in 4 male cats. ( I have another food that I feed the females but they still sneak the Rx variety.)

After my cat got crystals the first time my vet told me that my cat would only be able to eat RC Urinary SO and basically said it was "mericle food". So I listened and only fed this prescription food. But only 6 months later my cat got crystals AGAIN. I then switched him off the vet food completely and onto raw and havent had a single health problem with him since. Also, I thought high salt content in diets cause other health issues like high blood pressure? which in turn causes kidney failure? hyperthyroidism? congestive heart failure?

This cat food is great for my male cat who has a prescription for it. It's also great that I can safely feed it to my female cat because they eat together and my house is too small to separate them. It makes them both thirsty, so they drink plenty of water and stay hydrated and healthy.

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO 33 Dry Cat Food:
My Cat is 6 years old now, and it is because of a very good vet and following the diet he prescribed with this cat food. When he was only 4, he had a catheter and an overnight stay due to crystals that blocked his urine flow. Two days later,(and a huge vet bill) he ended up having to have surgery to basically turn him into a female cat. Since then I have only fed him the prescription diet, and he has not had even a small bladder infection in the past two years. I moved and the vet locally does not carry this brand, but my cat really likes it and it works, so I'm happy to be able to order it here.

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO 33 Dry Cat Food:
This food saved the lives of two of my cats. Regular dry food was causing crystaline blockage that cost $700 per incidence to clear. One cat had it twice!
These two eat only this food, and have not had another bout with the clog.
My vet wanted to have a paid office visit for each cat to continue to sell me this food, so I'm glad I could at least save THAT useless expense brought on by the State I live in.
