SafePaw Ice Melt is all I use.. Rock salt hurts the dog's paws..I even have my landscaper using it on his other jobs.

35lb tub best buy, Easy to spread, Good Value, Works best in sun

Cons:

Must repeat on thick ice, Poor in shaded areas

We had ice, 3-4" thick, needed to use repeatedly, chopping ice away each day, then spread more to melt, then chop away the next day. Sun is needed for quick melting. Will work easily on regular areas, steps, sidewalks, if ice not thick. We used the 35lb tub for best buy.

We only use this product around our property in the winter (Boston winters, we use a lot!). [...]But whoever designed the big bucket lid must've been a machine... Had to use TOOLS to pry it off and by then it was bent. Poor design. Used the old bucket from last year. Would hesitate to buy the big size again due to the poor lid design.
