Really dense simple formula. You would think a food this rich wouldn't be well tolerated but it is. No gas, small poops, nice coat. What I really like is the high level of Omega 3 and Glucosamine. Dogs always very eager to eat.

I am gradually changing my senior (13 yrs.) dog over to her "ancestral diet" of raw meat from "processed" dog chow. Its taken awhile for me to conclude that, as for people, raw & unprocessed is way healthier than "processed" food. I will use this product to supplement her change over to 100% RAW MEAT. She is now eating about half raw and half kibble. I understand that cooking removes most the moisture and ALL the ENZYMES from food. I believe that both these elements are essential for basic nutritional needs.

I believe that the best diet for dogs is their "ancestral diet" which is what they would eat in the "wild". As with people diets, the less processing the better. People should strive to eat as much of their food "raw" as possible just as wild animals do. Cooking/processing destroys all the "natural" benefits of food. I use this product as a "snack" or supplement to my dog's main diet of RAW MEAT.

I first switched my dogs to grain free using a different product (more $). It took over a month for their stools to get to normal and I did switch over slowly (or so I thought). Switch from one grain free to another (no weaning) caused no issues at all. Both of my dogs are free fed. Their weight has not changed (just had it checked), so they adjusted well. I can't say that this food is better than the old back to basics formula judging by the look and activity of my dogs (both 80+ lbs). However, according to the ratings it's better and that gives me a warm and fuzzy:)

Both of my poo mixes have been eating Back to Basics since they were puppies, and the vet always comments on how great their coats look and how healthy they are. They used to be on the Chicken formula, but since the company made changes, they now are on the Turkey, and they love it! Great product!

My Vet and I both agreed that this is exceptional
dog food. But after trying for two weeks my dog still continued to have diahrrea. She is an allergic shepherd and 9yrs old. The kibble was very small which made it difficult for her to chew. She liked it...but it didn't like her.
I had to send back the second bag thru fedx-$52

Our dog loves this food! We are slowly transitioning him from a typical store bought food full of grains. We feed him twice daily (he was free fed previously) and since we've been mixing this in his old food, he gobbles it up without a second thought. I feed Back to Basics once a day in the evening and my 2 dogs love it. I changed from Pork to Turkey because they love Turkey better. Sometimes I add a litte bit of vegetables or pour a little bit chicken broth over.
In overall I am very satisfied.

My 3 K9 kids had been on Blue Buffalo Wilderness Salmon and Duck dry food for over a year and doing well on it. I wanted to give them a "change of taste" and after much research decided on Back to Basics Turkey and Pork varieties...They have loved the change and continue acting like puppies even though they are 12 1/2. 12 and 8 1/2. My youngest has hypothyroid and sebaceous adenitis so foods with unnecessary fillers have been a NO NO for almost 2 years. Back to Basics gave me another alternative to a great food for my 3 K9 kids.

I searched for the right one and decided Back to Basics Turkey and Pork would be it. I feed them a mix of both. My youngest 8 1/2 has hypothyroid and sebaceous adenitis so foods with fillers are out. His brother and sister are 12 1/2 and 12. All 3 have been like puppies since we changed to Blue Buffalo and that continues with Back to Basics.

The first dry kibble that keeps my dogs' eyes dry and clear. I've used many of the other "best" brands that are also grain-free, but "Back To Basics" works the best.

My Bichons(12&14yrs)have been on this food since pups and recommended by the Breeder. They have great dental health due to the crunchiness, have never had a bowel or bladder problem nor any history of allergies (skin or othrwise). Great food.

We adopted a stray dog that would continually scratch until lesions would appear on her skin and they would get infected. After spending approx $1000 at the vet, I tried the "gluten free" food through Petfooddirect. She is now a happy dog and rarely scratches.

Absolutely the best I've come across. This high-protein, grain-free food is made from organ meats and clearly it comes across in taste; until this food, I couldn't get our dog to come even close to his recommended weight, even with expensive canned foods, gravies, raw foods, etc. He likes both this and the Pork formula, so Back to Basics is doing something right!

The Turkey is a bit easier on his stomach than the Pork - neither cause any real issues, just a difference in firmness of stool. His coat looks great, this food has completely cleared up his dandruff issues. I've also noticed his eyes don't drain as much. We kept him to grain-free food before, so whatever allergy there was in his prior foods isn't in Back to Basics. His energy levels are better, too, in particular his stamina on long walks.

The only love/hate relationship I have with this food is the pellet size. Our boy is missing some teeth, so a smaller pellet helps him eat. BUT, it also means more of the pellets get stuck in his jowls & fall out if he turns his head while eating...I end up having to pick up a dozen or so pellets after each meal. But it's easier for him to eat, so I don't mind one bit! This doesn't even go on my list as a personal con, but maybe it would for someone else, so I figured I'd mention it.

I like this dogfood because it's small size (for small-throated French bulldogs), it's grain free (I don't think dogs need grains, especially wheat), and it includes organ meat (not byproducts but organs, which carnivores typically eat first in the wild because of essential nutrients not found in muscle meat).

After being a longtime Orijen user it's nice to have a quality food made here.

I was trying to get my 2 mix breeds (Betsy + Penney) started on Orijen because I like their company story as well as ingredients. But, I had a hard time getting it on a consistent basis, and I couldn't quite get them to have firm stools on the Orijen. (I tried to adjust feeding amounts...) I decided to try this Back To Basics product because they seem to have a good company background too. So far so good on the transition. Better small, firm stools – yippee! So far Betsy, Penney, and I all like it.

Bulldozer, my 15 month old Bulldog, has had ongoing digestibility and stool quality challenges. To remedy this, our vet put him on a low fat, low protein diet about 6 months ago. While this seemed to address his stool issues, it was clear by looking at his coat and weight loss that he wasn't thriving. After doing some research of my own, I decided to transition him to a high quality grain-free diet. After seeing some favorable on-line reviews of Back to Basics and looking at the ingredient listing, it seemed like an interesting alternative to Bully's prior diets. We are roughly 3 weeks into the transition and so far, so good. He seems to love the food - I've never seen him this excited at meal time. And I love the end result of a healthier looking Bully with firmer stools. It's clear that he is thriving on this new diet. I just wish I had discovered it earlier.

I have a two-year old Boston, Sookie, who's Very active. I'm always on the lookout for a high quality food with lots of good protein that can keep up with her! I wanted to try this Back-To-Basics turkey flavor because I was doing research online and not only is it a good looking ingredient line, but they also seem to have a Green-conscience! I like that Sookie is getting her nutrition, and I also l like that I feel good about this company who's doing things to be carbon neutral.

My Roxie is a really pickey eater. I tried this new Back to Basics Turkey food because I thought that she'd like the liver as the first ingredient (she loves liver treats). Success! She's all over me when it's dinner time and she eats her bowl clean – I can't believe it. And, she's had good 'bathroom' movements, too. I'm going to keep her on this!
