Comments about Oxbow Western Timothy Hay:

Have guinea pigs and use lots of timothy hay. Buy Oxbow from pet stores (approx 3 # bags) w/ good results. This time bought a 9# box from this site, which is going straight to the trash. NO leaves; only sticks that can only be consumed by a horse or goat, not rabbits or guinea pigs. Do understand batches differ, but this one should not have been sold at all. The WORST hay I have ever bought, after more than 20 yrs of taking care of rabbits and gps. Had to rush and pay again, for decent hay. Would not recommend buying hay w/o looking at the merchadise. Paying to return this terrible hay does not make sense.

Comments about Oxbow Western Timothy Hay:

My guinea pigs generally like Oxbow hay, but I never purchased the 9 lb bag. I sounded like such a great deal.... The hay in the 9 lb bag is much harder and thicker than the hay in the smaller bags, and it has a bunch of yellow pieces. Very few soft, green leafy pieces. The guinea pigs won't eat it at all. They use is to sleep on.
I'm back to feeding orchard grass hay.
This hay is probably good for rabbits.

Comments about Oxbow Western Timothy Hay:

I have four house rabbits and my local pet stores are stocking less and less Oxbow hay. What they do have is in very small bags. My bunnies are spoiled; they will only eat Oxbow! This 9 pound bag is wonderful.
The hay in this last bag was cut very short, though that's not the fault of Pet Food Direct.

Service & Delivery comments:

Prompt delivery, maybe a bit of overprotection inside the box, but at least that means Pet Food Direct is concerned about products reaching their customers in good condition.

This is just the best hay for rabbits. It is well worth the price. It is the least dusty. Some hays are mostly stalks, not Oxbow. If you love and respect your rabbit, treat it right with Oxbow Timothy Hay. This is the one area where you can not skimp on care.

Comments about Oxbow Western Timothy Hay:

I bought the Oxbow hay because it looked finer in texture and my piggies go crazy for it!!! They use to squeak when it was time for fresh veggies but now they squeak when they want more Oxbow Hay! I saw a bigger bag of a different hay and bought it...What a mistake that was! My babies (cavies) usually run into the Oxbow and let it go over there heads and gobble it up, I was using two bags a week! With the other hay it's just piling up..so I have to find a spot that sells bigger bags of Oxbow Western Timothy Hay, it is truly the best and your cavies will love it beyond compare! Thanks Oxbow!

Comments about Oxbow Western Timothy Hay:

Oxbow timothy hay is so green and fresh. It is soft and my pigs love it. I have 2 guinea pigs and one of them will not eat a lesser quality hay. It was all hard "sticks" but Oxbow hay is exactly what hay should be. This is a wonderful product. It came in a bag inside a large cardboard box and it is jammed full of hay. My pigs popcorn all over the place when I fill their hay racks everyday!!!

Comments about Oxbow Western Timothy Hay:

This is the most cost effective (but still reasonably manageable size) of hay to buy for a single dwarf breed bunny. She will ONLY eat Oxbow Timothy hay, and her vet has her on a hay-only diet so she eats a lot of it. She loves it, especially when we get a box with lots of spring cuts.

Comments about Oxbow Western Timothy Hay:

I have 4 guineas who are very picky due to being spoiled. They eat all veggies and almost all fruits, dandelions, anything that I know they love. I've been purchasing my Timothy Hay in 35 pounds or more from a farm. Even though the hay from the farm is less expensive,[...] the hay I got from the farm was not all eaten by the Guineas. They would eat the seed tops off and make bedding from the rest. This is my first time purchasing Oxbox after buying from the farm and I have to say that when I feed them Oxbow hay there is no leftover hay, for bedding. I have to assume that they are eating it all and they must love it. I've tried Kaytee hay when I first got my Guineas and I will never purchase that brand again. I got more splinters than I was willing to deal with. Also 2 of my guineas had splinters in their eyeballs from Kaytee hay. I have to say that I probably saved money on the purchase [...] because the Guineas are not wasting the hay as they were with the organic farm hay. Hope this helps.

Most timothy hay sold for guinea pigs contains straw like grasses. This product contains hay that is soft and fresh smelling. Will be ordering this again!

This is as good as it gets, second only to a fresh bale from the farm. Since I am urban dweller, I don't have room for a full bale of hay, so this is the best replacement. It is SO much better, and cheaper, than the stuff at the local pet store.

I've tried other Timothy Hay brands and I have to admit Oxbow is one of the best. My guinea pigs devour the hay in hours. The smell, texture and freshness is very different from other brands which is probably why they like it so much. The downfall is I keep forgetting to order larger amounts because I run out too fast.

Comments about Oxbow Western Timothy Hay:

We started using this product after suffering a Guinea Pig loss. The vet recommended we start feeding hay, instead of pellets. We have slowly decreased pellet feed, and provided the OXBOW TIMOTHY HAY, as free feed. We learned a few things; 1. Pellet only diet, does NOT keep piggies teeth at the proper length, it doesn't encourage chewing & grinding needed to keep teeth short. 2. Pellets also may lead to weight gain, since piggies don't need to chew the pellets as much. 3. Low quality hay can be unclean, and cause parasites. 4. While fresh fruits and veggies are recommended, making sure they are clean is crucial. We use: [@] as a reference. We also worm our piggie, since we feed fresh wild forages. The OXBOW Timothy Hay & Orchard Grass, are wonderful products. They are fresh, clean, and most important, our piggies love them!! I would highly suggest these products to everyone with a piggie.

I use this hay for my rabbit. It's much more fresh than any other hay I've bought at pet stores. It has a very "grassy" quality to it. My vet also sells it, so it's highly recommended! Also, don't be swayed by the higher price. It will last a long time for one rabbit.

My children acquired four guinea pigs and I found I was allergic to the ordinary timothy hay. So we tried Oxbow. I haven't had any problem with it, maybe because it is fresh and not dusty. I bought the 50 pound bag because it is more economical. The guinea pigs dance around their cages when they see the hay coming!

Comments about Oxbow Western Timothy Hay:

My guinea pig loves this stuff, which is a good thing since my vet says that it's by far the best thing for her. Between the nutritional content and the tooth-wearing effects (a good thing, since cavy teeth keep growing), timothy hay makes for a primo diet. The oxbow in the 9lb package is fresh and properly cut for feeding to a cavy. Of course, 9lb for one guinea pig means putting the stuff in an airtight container to preserve freshness, but that's what you do when you buy in bulk :)
