Native Earth 18% Protein Rodent Diet is a natural-ingredient pelleted diet specifically formulated to provide the proper balance of all known nutrients considered essential for the growth, maintenance, and reproduction of rats, mice, gerbils and hamsters. 4018 is a fixed formula diet containing 18% protein and 5% fat. This food is essential as the main part of a rodent's diet. I supplement with 20% fruits and veggies and with Native Earth that's all they need. Our hamsters, fancy mice and rats are big and healthy and live long lives. This is quality stuff and new formula is good for adults, babies and pregnant rodents.
Too bad no one carries it locally here, but excellent fast service, reasonable shipping charges, well packed.

I feed this to all 12 of my rats every single day, they love it and it is literally the best thing on the market to feed them! Best of all it is cheaper than the unhealthy food they have at all the pet stores!

I use this as the main diet for my rodentry (rats, hamsters, gerbils, and mice). I've tried other lab blocks in the past, but none are as nutritionally-complete as this, and the animals all eat this very well. The quality and price of the food is excellent, but the shipping is quite high.

It's great, quality food that my rattie boys love. I can't feed them the make-your-own kind because they pick through it and fight each other over the primo bits. This solves the problem, and I give them healthy, fresh treats every day or two.

Smaller than the blocks I'm used to. It definitely took my rats a few days to get used to them, but when they don't have much of an option, they started eating them much faster.
Not sure why they didn't take to the blocks right away, it's not the first time we've fed them blocks, but like I said they're not like any of the other lab blocks we've fed them before. They seem to be lighter in color and much slimmer. I'm sure it doesn't help that we've always fed them the seed mixes.
Needless to say, I'm definitely happy with the blocks. An excellent value as compared to anything else I've found and we'll continue to use these from here on out.

incredibly superfast
got email saying it was shipped but it was on my front porch while I was reading the email!!
EXPENSIVE shipping due to being based on weight. Cost of shipping is what will possibly deter from buying this product.

We have about 40 rats in our rescue and they all love these blocks. They can store them where ever they want in their cages and the blocks do not get wet or moldy.
Block composition allows good gnawing and enjoyment.
Overall a great diet base. We still add some grains and a low protein dog food for variety, but these blocks make up a large part of their diet.
Excellent block for rats.
Autoship is a great time saver. Definitely recommend autoship.

Native Earth 4018 is the same as Harland Teklad Global 2018, almost impossible to get unless you have a contact with a lab. Now it is available for the public! These lab blocks were designed for mice and rats: ultimate nutrition, supports lactation, development, etc. Complete! It is the Mercedes of lab blocks!

I've been looking for a reliable way to get this particular food for some time, and I'm very glad to have found this supplier. Shipping is killer, as it only comes in heavy 40 lb bags, but allowed pick-up makes the food itself a good value, especially when compared to popularly available off-the-shelf rodent foods. I use it for mice and a gerbil, and they both eat it with equal preference to a seed mix also constantly provided, they actually like the taste of these blocks.
Arrived right on time; this supplier also has good contact with the manufacturer of the product.

Harlan is the best rat food in todays market and I love the ability to buy it at such a great price online. I have owned and rescued rats for nearly 14 years, and I can honestly say harlan is the best food ive ever tried. The rats love it, its easy to feed, and it keeps rats in great condition. The 18% is mainly for growing and pregnant rats but it works fine for my rats. The only precaution is for older rats with kidney probles. Overall, a wonderful product! [...]

My rats love the way this stuff tastes, and it makes their fur very shiny. This variety is 18% protein, which is usually suggested for younger animals, and I was initially concerned about weight gain, but I have several pet rats and none of them pudged up when I switched to this brand.
